I don't imagine there is one for that model, since it was released long before PDF was the norm.

I could be wrong about that, but I ditched Windows completely about twelve years ago, so. AFAIK, MOTU never even updated Clockworks to a 32-bit Windows application, meaning you would need to run the old 16-bit Windows 3.1 version in order to program it. If you're using Windows, you're even more out of luck because dealing with unsupported parallel port MIDI interfaces under Windows is a major headache. In a nutshell, if you want to program that thing, and you work with Mac, you're going to need a computer which can run OS 9 natively (classic won't work).

But in order to program it, I have to use another Mac running OS 9 because MOTU never released a version of Clockworks that would run on OS X to support it's older serial interfaces. I use it primarily with an old Powermac G5 running OS X equipped with a Stealth serial port for native serial support. The serial MOTU MIDI Express XT has been my main MIDI interface for at least fifteen years, so I know it pretty well. I will probably call MOTU and see what they can might be able to help, but I'll first need more info - like what computer and OS you're using. of course it was the USB one that I had see days ago.

his smartass response was that he didn't have a manual but it took him 45 secs to find it online. I emailed the guy who sold it to me, merely asking if a manual came with it. So, whenever I search online, everything that comes up is for that later USB version. The frustrating thing is that MOTU has put out another unit with the exact same name, except it has the USB.

Unfortunately, I am not sure how to connect to the computer (mac), since there is no USB port. is computer capability the unit has a switch that allows one to choose between mac and pc. not sure how much is related to the XT though. I think someone posted manual info in this thread. that way you don't run into (this) particular problem your facing.

but the logical thing is always try to getĪn MTP AV version. So in that context the XT isn't useless in any case. I run a serial MTP AV standalone but I know I can hook it onto a Motu which has a Network 8 pin cable connector at any time.

I think the user presets can only be controlled from the computer software with the XT though. My problem is midi data getting bunched up, resulting in unintended program changes and hanging notes. Even if only 1 synth is playing, all 7 buttons light up, implying that all 7 channels (minus 1 for the MPC) are being engaged. I experimented a little but, but nothing helpful was achieved. tips on how to separate my synths or which factory preset is best. If you've made it this far, then here's what I am after:Ģ. The manual for the newer one does not help me, as it bases most of its instructions from a computer standpoint. I did see some posts on a "Parallel midi express XT", but it was unclear if they referred to the one I have. it's hard to even do an online search because there doesn't seem to be any way of distinguishing one from the other. I didn't realize there were 2 versions of this one with USB and one without. I bought this as a way to control all my synths from my MPC. On the other hand, if you intend to use the unit with a MIDI sequencer, such as Performer or most other popular software, you don't actually need to use the Console software, as you can control the unit directly from within the sequencer.Anyone have a manual for this one or open to sharing a couple of basic tips? Once you've edited and stored your setups, you can use the MTP AV as a stand-alone, customised MIDI processor, with no need for an external computer. Setups can also be stored to disk on your computer, so the Console application is basically an editor/librarian for the MTP AV. Using the Console software, you can call up and modify any of the preset 'Base Setups' supplied as starting points. The MTP AV can be programmed from either its front-panel LCD or from the Console software provided, and you can store your setups in the MTP AV's internal memory locations. You can connect it to a Macintosh serial port - modem or printer - or to a PC, either via a serial or a parallel port. Works with PC/MAC -Activity LEDs for every port -128 MIDI channels -Synchronisation for ADAT, digital audio, and video -Merge any inputs to any outputs -Route any inputs to any outputs -Mute any MIDI data on any cable -Comes with IEC, USB, Midi Cable, and 4 rack screws ADAT Sync Out, Word Sync Out, and Video Sync In The MIDI Timepiece AV is a professional 8-input, 8-output MIDI interface, MIDI patchbay, SMPTE-to-MIDI converter and digital audio/video synchroniser for Macintosh or PC.
